Dr. Bruce Benson and Environmental Extortion

This has been a very exciting semester thus far, and things keep on getting better! Professor Bell has asked me to inform Fed-Soc members about an upcoming speaker, Dr. Bruce Benson. He will be discussing "Enviro-Extortion: Private Attorneys General and the Use and/or Threat Threat of Environmental Litigation to Extract Involuntary Wealth Transfers." Basically, Dr. Benson will be analyzing the incentives of environmental groups that have prosecutorial powers under federal environmental statutes, and of lawyers who exercise similar powers through class action toxic tort suits. Dr. Benson's presentation sounds like it will be fascinating and especially relevant for students interested in property law, environmental law and/or "law and economics" issues. The Blank Fund, together with the law school's fund for visiting speakers, will provide food and drink for all.

WHO: Dr. Bruce Benson
WHAT: Discussion of Enviro-Extortion
WHERE: Room 237B
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 11:30 am
